As in:
vmware-cmd /vmfs/volumes/datastore/guest/guest.vmx removesnapshots
or the guest tools?
If you use the vmware-cmd on an esx server you shouldn't see any
corruption of the underlying system, or at least I've never seen any
problems using that command.
