[SLUG] Asus 1000hd - excessive HD noise

Havent used my Netbook for a few weeks. Booted up last night and 
installed 94 updates. Now whenever I use streaming media ( shoutcast in 
Exaile or Youtube in Firefox) The HD clicks like crazy.

Booted MoonOS from USB thumbdrive  ( ubuntu 8.04 based I think) and no 
problem.

Googled without success - checked eeebuntu and Ubuntu forums - no luck.

Ideas please.
