I think one of the biggest mental differences between sendmail/exim and
postfix relates to whether you prefer rigorous definition or scriptable
flexibility. I really love the vicious, table-oriented regularness of
postfix, and don't enjoy the script-y, regex-y looseness of sendmail/exim.
Other admins positively thrive on it, though.
Your postfix looping issues were most likely PEBKAC too... :-) But given
experience with other systems, it's better to just go with what you know.
That's the most important thing for any sysadmin to take away from a
discussion like this: Learn something well and kick butt with it (and be
flexible enough to learn other things when there's good reason to).
