Re: [SLUG] [Fwd: USB memory stick]

Thanks to Michael and Billy USB stick now works. Laptop had dropped about half its modules for no apparent reason. Fsck on USB stick doesnt look healthy either but I am unsure of what I shuld get here.
details for archives

On my desktop which can read and write to the USB memory stick
fsck gave this

ken@kenubuntu:~$ fsck.vfat -f sda
dosfsck 2.11, 12 Mar 2005, FAT32, LFN
open sda:No such file or directory

at this time the following appeared in dmesg

lsmod on the laptop showed about half the modules that the desktop had. Vfat was missing, so I loaded that. Still didnt mount USB stick. Went to back up data but it was unable to burn a CD.
Nothing important that was not backed up so
Re installed ubuntu from CD
all the modules are back in lsmod, USB stick works, cd burning works
I wonder why the modules dropped out?
