not saying anything against your efforts, (or anyone elses attempts) I
feel that developers are too quick to start up their own free software
solution because they can, I think its been called sourceforge syndrome,

Would you not be better off taking a project that someone has done all the
basic leg work on, and improving it until it suits your needs, or helping
someone else with their one and bringing it up to a useful standard for
everyone...

I'm the author of pam_smb and I can gladly say that about 100lines of code
belong to me, and I don't know a major amount about SMB and PAM (or at
leasst when I started I didn't).. but I took code that did both and merged
it until it worked for what I wanted, ...

and I know you are probably doing this for the learning experience..
everyone always is.. :-)

btw I'll probably get flamed down for being non-constructive here, but ah
well it's Monday...
