I got Optus cable 'net installed in May. I told the tech as little as
possible about my connection, when he wanted to test it, I told him my
machine was unavailable (insert reason here) but that I was confident it
would work if he gave me account info he could be on his way.
When he left, I got my wireless router out, plugged it into the cable
modem, keyed in the account info and was on my way.
Btw, Optus are funny about services being run, make sure no services
leak from inside your network.
