[SLUG] ask a silly question(what is *.la ,*.lo)

Dear List :

 

        There are lots of *.la ,*.lo .

I only knew *.a is static library

                      *.so is shared library

                         *.o is object code or driver .

Could you tell me what they(*.la , *.lo) are ?
