[SLUG] rm -dfr ????

Hi,
In the throes of doing all this php and apache I need to delete an older 
php directory.

I am trying  rm -dfr  directory name
It asks if I want to delete the directory, then says it can't because it is 
a directory! What am I doing wrong??
