QNX demo floppy is great, just need a Word Processor, which probably comes
with the full version and voila.
Apparently it is a cousin of Linux and linux apps are very easily ported.

An alternative would be QNX RTOS, which is free for non comercial use. It
has lean requirements (just take a look at the 1.44 demo floppy with tcp/ip
stack and browser builtin), and comes with very nice window manager and
plently of ported apps.

Give web/email based support and training, unless people are willing to go
onsite and assist/train people in East Timor.
As much as I love linux, I know that older and/or non-compliant hardware
variations can cause headaches for tech savvy people.
It would be good though. Does anyone have copies of GEOS or Geo windoew or
whatever it was called to give away to them or maybe GEM

I actually saw the news report on this in Brisbane over
the weekend, but there's an interesting article at;
http://www.it.mycareer.com.au/news/2001/07/24/FFXJF9FPFP
C.html
Basically, PC's For Kids has had 1200 PCs donated (OK,
old clunkers) that volunteers are rebuilding for
needy / underprivaleged kids (and I believe many were
earmarked for East Timor), and were loading Windows
3.11 on them. Microscum found out and threatened to sue.
Even when the reporter explained the situation to their
Corporate Affairs Leech (Lawyer), all she'd say
was "they are illegally copying software" - doesn't
matter that the software isn't made or SUPPORTED any
more....
Well done, Microsoft - again, you have shown what a
bunch of heartless, mercinary jerks you really are - as
if Windows 3.11 is going to hurt you - who knows, some
of these people might have actually upgraded and PAID
for it....
So, according to the above story, Anthony Rumble has
offered to donate Linux and StarOffice to the
organization to help get them going, and train
volunteer installers.
Well done Anthony - this is something that can only
HELP The Cause (and hurt Microscum !!) - what can we
Sydney-based SlUGgers do to help ?
Jon
P.S. Even SWMBO now hates Bill Gates !!!!..:-)
