RE: [SLUG] firewalling...

It depends on the network setup normally only the gateway needs a firewall

Internet
   I
FireComp
   I
Other computers

should be ok, if firewall on FireComp is set up correctly.

While:

Internet
   I----------------------------Other computers
   I--------------------------- FireComp

can be a problem, as other computers can get to the web without being protected by the firewall or more so the Internet can get to the computers without going via the firewall. This would require routing and possibly public IPs in place as well.

Subject: [SLUG] firewalling...

I just want to clear something in my head...
Saying that a company with 1 computer for firewall (named FireComp), it has squid and iptables script. There are 1 computer running BIND, NIS, Sendmail, etc (server program, named ServComp) and a few client computer. Does it necessary for the rest computer except FireComp running individual firewall/iptables? If so, what and why?

Thank You.

Phillipus.
