I have a Dreamhost $35US a month account (mysql is the database if that's
important), which over 12 months isn't really that much cheaper.  I think I
get about 10GB bandwidth tho and there's a discount for paying 12 months in
advance.

Generally hosting in the US will be cheaper, tho if you expect all your
customers to be Australian you might want the server to be closer to them.
