The CPx can do both, *but* you'll need to find a way to trigger it in
software.

Inspiron 5000s (yes, I know they're out of date) used to work
perfectly in this regard - you could use the keyboard shortcut to
trigger the modeswitch.

I've not been able to do this on the CPx I have at my current job.  I
have managed to get simultaneous display working under 'doze, so the
hardware is still capible of doing it.

Something has obviously changed in the more recenemt models to prevent
that feature from working correctly through the keyboard - it might be
a good idea to search google to see if any tools or configuration
advice exists for configuring the ATI Rage Mobility (the chipset which
Dell uses in their laptops) in this manner.
