Is anyone aware of large linux installations (in the order of 250-350
concurrent user) running text based applications (not X).
The company I work for is in the market for replacing an aging Data
General system (DG/UX) and the idea of using linux has popped up.
What I am interested in is the possibilty of talking to IT staff of
companies that already have this sort of connectivity running under
Linux on a single box platform.
Hardware that we are possibly looking at is named branded (IBM
Netfinity, Compaq and HP), maybe 100Gb Raid-5 disk, 2-4Gb Memory and
possibly 2-4 Xeon Processors. The budget is quite large, given the
purchase price and on-going maintenance cost of the DG system. The
system would fit into our existing frame WAN.
As a first step, what I need to convince 'the management' of is that
linux is upto the task, so 1 or 2 reference sites would be
appreciated.
Does anyone know of such a large site that would be interested in
talking to me -off line of course-
Regards
Steven Kerr
