[SLUG] lpr error

Well what a busy day it's been on the slug list, thought I'd add to the
general noise some :)

I don't really have time to troll through docs to figure this out so a quick
hand from fellow sluggers is always useful.
I was tooling round with my printers in Debian and used printool to set up a
printer which is there fine and printing ASCII direct to /dev/lp0 works just
fine. Printing via lpr gives an error of "No spool file found" which is
dutifully printed out.
A Goggle search revealed nothing of use at all so if anyone has a clue on
how to solve this I'd be most grateful.
