Hmmm... I just noticed a pattern.  Both times it has barfed have been
immediately following a "Lame server" message involving the same remove
server - 3dwal.directhit.com.

Jul  4 14:51:40 thrud named[20885]: Lame server on '214.192/27.252.67.209.in-addr.arpa' (in '192/27.252.67.209.in-addr.arpa'?): [216.34.121.10].53 '3dwal.directhit.com'
Jul  4 14:57:42 thrud named[20885]: No root nameservers for class IN


Jul 10 14:30:10 thrud named[6460]: Lame server on '216.192/27.252.67.209.in-addr.arpa' (in '192/27.252.67.209.in-addr.arpa'?): [216.34.121.10].53 '3dwal.directhit.com'
