Something like
	dd if=my_input_file conv=ascii | od -c | more
just for a quick look.
Reminds me of some horrible tape jobs I have seen in my dim past.

Actually IBM dinosaurs still run on EBCDIC and manage to run a thousand
instances of Linux at the same time.
