[SLUG] mpeg_encoder and friends

I've been trying to play around with my DVD (MPEG) decoder card and also
with mpeg_encode.  What I want to do is convert a single image into an
mpeg, so I can send it to the decoder and have it display on the TV.

Unfortunately, my experiments so far have met with a lossy image.  Does
anybody here have more experience with mpeg_encode whereas they could
suggest some options I may need to tweek?  Or recommend an alternative
mpeg compressor/encoder?
