most other programs store these in /usr/X11R6/lib/X11/app-defaults
I recall some wierd Netscapey reasoning for Netscape's being elsewhere
last time I read its install docs (prolly about 3 years ago now :)
and, yes, you can hand-tweak the look and feel of such beautiful
programs as xclock, xload, and xedit (and some more modern
desktop-defiant proggies like xosview, gv, and xawtv).
