Hmm it's been a while since I talked directly to modems but perhaps AT&F
may help. It's not ideal but you can use it to restore factory defaults
rather than ATZ. Another alternative may be to fiddle with the AT
commands until the modem is happy and then flick at an AT&W to write it
to non-volatile RAM.
I'm wondering if it's some sort of DTR thing from the previous call. If
it's an external modem does the same problem exist after powercycling
the modem or in the case of an internal, power cycling the machine?
