Re: [SLUG] Red Hat Slagging

Simon,
Please tell me how you stop the "gremlins" from changing the system. We have a similar number of systems and our computer coordinator spends almost of his three hours per week (the time he is allowed off class to do the job of keeping the networks going) reinstalling win98, removing viruses and replacing unimportant files like command.com and io.sys that the students like to delete - just before they turn the system off
without shutting down.

Ah, this one is relatively easy - it's called POLICIES...

We have the "power (l)user brigade" at work who think they know everything and try doing dumb things like this - they find that with the policies on their machines locked up tighter than... well, you get the drift..... it's damn near impossible...

Yes, it CAN still happen, but it lessens the time our desktop droids spend rebuilding machines.

Of course, if they are all of the same or nearly the same config, use GHOST and create a CD of the machine - makes reinstalls a breeze...

Changing from windows is not an option as the DET have supplied the "Microsoft Set" to
all state schools and expect it to be used.

Until the next election when all the striking teachers are put against the wall and shot !!!
