For those who are interested, the word democracy is actually derived
from the Greek words;

Demos: Franchise, and
"Cracy" (in one form or another): Rule

Hence, the actual word democracy means "franchised rule". 

If anyone is looking for a good read on the concepts of democracy, i'd
suggest "The Real World of Democracy - The Massey Lectures", by C.B.
Macpherson. It's a collection of transcribed lectures that were first
aired by the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation in 1965.
