Case in point: The (very political) abortion debate in the USA. Pretty good
democracy, not generally regarded as an authoritarian state (despite recent
changes)... some states and cities within the USA are very dangerous places
to be publically "pro choice".
So if it were a choice of having my family shot, my house firebombed, or my
accusations or statements of support made anonymously...
