I think jeff at least wasnt following my argument (and im not going to say that wasnt entirely my fault) I was specificaly refering to the optimisation of systems that do either.
1. rendering
2. realtime
I will agree that the benifits from compiler optimisations are going to be small for a mail server and largely useless.
However I am sure that I replied that I was interested in optimisations in regards to the points I listed above.
