Tell that to the bosses and clients.
They would much rather buy cheap slightly incompatible linux hardware, and
me spend days on it then buy decent more expensive hardware...
Good example is they were going to buy a brother all-in-one
fax/printer/scanner, for $500 and I was opting for the HP equivalent for
$1000. They wanted to print ps files from Linux.
We spend maybe 10 hours debating the fact, and looking for other cheap
alternatives now the brother would have cost $1000 including wages etc,
and more to try and get working with Linux, and the HP costs $1500 with
wages, and a little more to get working with Linux (As it is not listed as
perfectly working on www.linuxprinting.org, but no all-in-one is I don't
think).
I work in the transport industry, most customers want the cheap *Will just
do* hardware, which ends up costing them more in labour then it would to
buy something decent, but they cannot see that!
Cheers,
Scott
