[chat] Linux isn't Linux? Debian seems to think it is....

Hi All,
I know this is picky, but it would be nice to know why debian has this, 
but when I type passwd I get:
Changing password for scott
(current) UNIX password:
Enter new UNIX password:
Retype new UNIX password:

Why would that be?
Could this be classified as a bug?
