Just finished a lmbench3 shootout between Solaris 9 and Linux 2.4.20.
Test machine was a Sun Ultra5 - 333Mhz Ultrasparc CPU, 256MBs RAM. Stock 9GB
HDD.
10 iterations were run.
Both machines were fresh installs. The linux machine was running
debian/stable with a 2.4.20 kernel. The Solaris9 machine was running stock
with X11 stopped.
Neither the Linux nor Solaris machine were running "clean" (ie: nothing else
runnning). I don't consider this to be a "scientific" benchmark.
anyway, the results summary is here:

Standard Disclaimers apply: if you think this is a license to slam solaris, it
isn't. Similarly, the results could be crap, but its adequate for my needs :)
