No, spot on - an analogy that gets their attention by the balls - so to
speak.

Compromise - if you start compromising the ideals of free software, of
open source software, etc, then we will end up with the whole old *nix
issues again. It is not possible to force people to observe the
requirements of the GPL in the future, if you relax some conditions now.
It is just impossible to get people to go back to that situation.

Compromise is about giving group and giving something away. Something
you can never get back.
