[chat] One.Tel, employment, and me.

Hi all,

Most of you have heard my rants about One.Tel and things prior to the
demise of said company, and the whole thing has filtered down through
the small companies that were attached like leeches to the side of this
telco... and thus also to mine.

After having had my various bosses assure me that there were plenty of
other projects and the like for me to continue working on plus lots of
investor funding, rah rah rah, last Friday I was called up to the CEO's
office and told to take eight weeks unpaid leave because of "financial
difficulties". I was assured that after these eight weeks (which is,
apparently, the time it will take for the investors to actually sign
agreements, etc) I would be welcomed back happily.

As you can imagine, I was quite upset. Here they were, taking what I
surmised to be the most cowardly method of making me redundant -
reducing my three days per week down to none for eight weeks while still
seeming happy with my work. The practical outcome is that I will have to
resign, because I can claim no redundancy package (apparently
part-timers and pre-12-month employees cannot claim them) and I can't
afford a holiday for that long unpaid. I also have this feeling that the
company may not even be there in eight weeks' time.

I guess this is a round-about way of saying I am currently unemployed,
so if anyone knows of any openings for the impossible (where impossible
reads "Junior part-time sysadmin/web coder"). I'm working part time
because I have to finish my uni degree as well as get some experience,
and pay the rent :-) My current resume is at
http://www.liedra.net/resume.html
but for an overview, I am proficient in Linux/Windows systems admin, and
have been learning a lot about Solaris systems admin as well. I have
good PHP/HTML/Java skills as well.

I would really appreciate any recommendation of agencies, companies etc.
that might be hiring.

Any questions happily answered!

Thank you,

Catie
