[chat] PC's for kids..

I don't know if you saw the spot on ACA tonight about "PC's for Kids"
and Microsoft giving them a "Cease and Desist" letter for loading old
DOS/Windows onto old PC's they build for disadvantaged kids.

Microsoft closes a window on charity (F2 MyCareer)

We have pledged to give them Linux and StarOffice CD's.

EverythingLinux offers Linux CDs to charities (LinuxWorld Australia)

We really need to extend a hand from the user groups as wel to these
people, and try and help them look at alternatives. Perhaps even offering
limited support/training to get them up to speed, and build up a lending
library.
Were certainly keen to help out, in any way we can.

What do you think? Any other ideas? Perhaps people already involved in say
TAD, and others, who are deploying Linux now, be able to contact "PC for
Kids" and at the least explain that there not alone, and that it CAN be
done with free software. I get the distinct feeling that either they think
there are no alternatives, of have somehow written Linux off as an
alternative for them.

We really need to re-educate them if this is their opinion.

Thoughts...
