[chat] Subdomains at different ISPs

Hi,

Can one have a .org.au domain with different sub-domains
handled by different ISPs?

Last year I organised caves.org.au for the Australian Speleological
Federation and am thinking of getting royalsoc.org.au for the Royal
Society of NSW. The Royal Society in London uses www.royalsoc.ac.uk so
I thought we could pick something similar.

The Royal Society of NSW is at http://www.science.uts.edu.au/rsnsw/
The RS of SA is at: http://www.waite.adelaide.edu.au/RSSA/
The RS of WA is at: http://www.ecu.edu.au/pa/rswa/ etc

I was thinking if NSW gets royalsoc.org.au and we sub-domain
with nsw.royalsoc.org.au, sa.royalsoc.org.au wa etc.
But the other States already have an ISP, in some cases a uni,
other cases a commercial ISP and would probably want to stay
with that ISP.

Can an ISP in Tasmania host tas.royalsoc.org.au while an ISP in NSW host
nsw.royalsoc.org.au and same for SA, WA, Vic? I presume its just a matter of
having DNS entries for each sub-domain pointing to each ISPs IP address
rather than a single domain royalsoc.org.au pointing to one ISP.
