As cost increases, complexity of switch tends to increase.

Good switches don't mess up your video signal as much, provide basic
keyboard and mouse emulation when you're switched to another system
(so rebooting systems don't hang).  Some even let you use the keyboard
to select device.  Some of the really nice ones even do mouse protcol
conversion so you can use your PS/2 mice on machines with only ports
for serial mice.  Some even let you mix Sun or other hardware in too.

It all depends on what you want.
