SLUG Mailing List ArchivesDetection of a keyboard is done by communicating with the processor in the keyboard over the serial line of the cable. In order to be detected, the keyboard indicates a status to the bios that it has self tested etc. To fool the bios, you'd need a little processor.... doesn't need to be particularly powerful, since it just has to tell the computer it is there. A cheap PIC should do it, but you'll have to write the software. Alternatively, Jamie Honan demonstrated his Atmel AVR based keyboard replacement which attaches an LCD screen to the keyboard port, and that code (which does the keyboard initialisation communications) is already written and debugged, and the AVR processor is not too expensive, right Jamie?
