Debian's secret is the Debian Policy, which is rigourously and consistently applied to every package in the system, and to the system as a whole.
I run Redhat 6.2 on my main box, without rebuilding the thing from scratch (will happen but not right now) I cannot load apt onto the system, I think I know the reasons why and that is why we need true genius. This goes double since RH broke the upgrade mechanism to RPM 4.0. Redcarpet looks pretty nice from the latest ximian, but it broke some things in my box and I still bump noses with RPM 4.0 stopping me cleanly upgrading. Debian wins again.
