Don't use redhat.[Snip]Politics is hard to control in any body and I beleive that we need to woo back the redhat support to keep SLUG from being an elitist debian club.*sigh* Since when were Redhat and Debian the only distributions? I could have said "use debian", but I didn't. And I didn't for a reason.
This may have appeared to be slanted towards you however this is more generic. It is unfortunate that your specific comments triggered the events. I think that any regular would find your advice non-distro specific on the whole and therefore it is a gross misrepresentation of you that you appear to head up the conversation. I appologise for that implication. Please do not think I am attacking anyone specific. I have seen a problem that alienates redhat and other distro users and it worries me, I am a Linux user not any one distro. My firewall is Debian and I love apt-get.
OK maybe I was off focus with Redhat, perhaps RPM based and apt based might be a better break down, might amount to the same thing though. Why can't I install apt-get into a non debian system. If someone genius programmer can answer that one for me then we can have a level playing field again.
If you asked Del, do you think that he would say that you said 'use debian' even though you did not say those actual words. (Urk I hope that reads right) It so strongly is implied by the previous traffic on the list.
