Hi Folks,
If you're the sort of person who enjoys doing cool technical
stuff, interacting with clever people, learning heaps, and don't mind
being paid a bit less for having more fun, then maybe we have a job
for you...
Gelato@UNSW is looking for someone to work with us, to do
Linux-kernel performance tuning, modification and
evaluation, and anything else as it comes up.
In the near future, you'll be working on NFS server and client
performance evaluation, scalability and tuning. Project details are
on the Gelato@UNSW Wiki
http://www.gelato.unsw.edu.au/IA64wiki/NFSBenchmarking
You'll work with open-source practitioners from around the world; as
well as with the excellent Gelato@UNSW team (See
http://www.gelato.unsw.edu.au/IA64wiki/GelatoUNSWPeople )
Previous slaves have gone on to do a Master's degree, or to positions
as System Administrators or software developers.
Comments from previous interns/slaves:
`The best working environment I've ever experienced'
`I've learnt heaps!'
POSITION ESSENTIAL REQUIREMENTS:
* Excellent C coding skills
* Good written communications skills
* Ability to plan and carry out work with minimal supervision
* Good Unix/Linux skills ... you will be expected to maintain and
administer your own machine, and take a part in shared administration
of the Gelato@UNSW machines.
* Good understanding of TCP/IP networking at theoretical and
practical levels.
* Honours degree or equivalent industry experience, with a major in
Computer Science, with significant Operating Systems emphasis.
POSITION DESIRABLE REQUIREMENTS:
* Have completed the UNSW Advanced Operating Systems course with
better-than-satisfactory results.
* Have had patches accepted into the Linux kernel
* Have been working on a major open-source project
The position will be level 4/5 UNSW General staff, which pays
around $40--50K p.a., depending on experience and qualifications,
plus up to 17% superannuation plus leave loading.
UNSW is an equal employement opportunity employer.
