Next SLUG Meeting - Friday, 31st August, 2001
Please note: We will be attempting to start and finish the meeting
earlier from now on, so dinner doesn't run so late. Talks will
start at 7pm, with the usual suspects beforehand.
The Usual Suspects
* Q&A - "What has Linux done for/to me lately?"
* Linux News & Discussion
Rebecca Richards on Linux Security
Many, many apologies to Rebecca for last month's projector
failure! Usually the disagreeable device [*] comes on with a poke
from an umbrella, but not this time. Unfortunately, we hadn't
officially booked the room, so no one was on site to make sure it
was working...
Luckily for us, Rebecca has been kind enough to do the talk this
month. Here's the summary posted previously:
Rebecca Richards will be giving a talk on Linux and general
security for the home user, covering intrusion detection
systems, securing your network, and a few examples of the fun
that can be had... from the outside!

It's Young Kernel Time!
Like Young Talent Time, the Linux kernel has spawned many a
teenage heart-throb (no, not you, Rusty). Aside from that, the
Linux kernel has very little in common with this influential 80's
television show... It's time to find out why! Described herein:
* Kernel? That's a corn thing, right?
* Building your kernel manually
* Building for RPM-based systems and Debian
* Dealing with modules
* Kernel features Q&A
* Patching your kernel
* Kickarse kernels & wacky hacks
Holy cow - that's KERNEL CRAZY!
Dinner
After the meeting at the House of Boiled Television Entrails [*].
The real name is of course, "The House of Guang Zhou", and you'll
find it in Haymarket (especially if you follow the crowd at the
end of the meeting).
